Reliance
Jio is ready to take on popular online grocers like BigBasket and Amazon in
India for the last five months. It first talked about JioMart in December last
year, with the pilot kicking off in select pin codes in Mumbai last month.
Today, JioMart has launched its online grocery delivery service in 200 cities
and cities across India.
JioMart was referred to as h Desh ki Nayi Dukan 'when it
was first launched last year. The service enables you to purchase groceries and
daily essentials through its website. The service is not available on mobile
right now, but we can expect the JioMart mobile app to be launched sooner
rather than later.
“We provide you the facility to shop for everything you
need for your home - this is fresh fruits and vegetables, rice, lentils, oil,
packaged food, dairy items, frozen, pet food, household cleaning items, and
personal care products. Take it only. Virtual Store, ”the official website
reads.
Now, you may be wondering how does
JioMart check if it is available at my
location? Well, it is very easy. Click
the 'Deliver to' option next to the search bar,
enter your PIN code to see if
it is serviceable. If JioMart arrives at your address,
you will see the name of
your city in green. And, you will see an error message -
"We are not
currently available at this location. Stay tuned!"
One of the features that will come in handy for many users is 'Search with list'
and as the
name suggests it allows you to pen your entire shopping list and view each an item at once. is. Also, if you remember, JioMart is available
through WhatsApp,
but not all PIN codes.
JioMart: Is it any good?
JioMart
is now available at my location in New Delhi. Therefore, it was only
natural
for me to check the service. The web interface is quite intuitive and I
didn't
face any hiccups there. You can browse all categories, add depth to them,
and
easily access every product page from the website. To begin the process
you
will need to sign up with your phone number and email address.
The
search algorithm still needs some work to do because the search for
'turmeric'
(turmeric in Hindi) did not return results related to turmeric at the
top.
Instead, the website displayed search results for Haldiram, a well-known
snack
brand in India.
The
service has started in New Delhi today, but the product list seems flush with
almost everything you might need during the lockdown. We can expect it to
grow
in the coming months, with Prime Now, BigBasket, and Grofers going down
the
road.
Delivery and Payment Methods.
The delivery part is where I am a bit skeptical about the service. JioMart does
not
offer solid delivery dates or any slots like its rivals. Instead, it simply
states
that your order will be placed within the next two days. You can go to
your
account section and keep track of any updates related to delivery.
“We will try to place your order in the next two days, however, it may
be
delayed further due to the current surge in orders. Our teams will contact
you
regarding your order, ”says the order page. I will update you when I
receive my
order and if there is an update in the delivery process.
Jiomart payment option
For
payment methods, JioMart includes a wealth of options for order fulfillment.
You can either rely on JioMoney, PhonePe, Paytm and Mobikwik if you prefer to
use your digital wallet. Apart from this, you can also use net banking and
credit/debit cards to place orders. JioMart is also providing 'Cash on Delivery'
service, which is one of the most used payment methods across India.
So, if
you can't find a slot on Grofers or BigBasket, you can give JioMart a try
and
see if it's better for you. The service should be live across India and in
cities
and towns in the coming weeks, so stay tuned if it is not yet available
at your
location.
